Veils: Classic to Couture
In this two-day workshop, you will learn almost everything you ever need to know about millinery veiling! We will discuss how to measure, cut and sew veiling, as well as the different types and widths that are available to modern-day milliners.
We will work with 3 types of veiling in class: Russian, "Vintage" Honeycomb and Extra-Wide Diamond English Veiling.
Students will learn techniques for creating classic veils (Day 1) and couture veils that are suitable for brims (Day 2):
➸ Blocked veil on Base
➸ Gathered Veil on Headband
➸ Blocked & Wired Veil
This is a technique-based course (as opposed to project-based) so you will be working on veils only and not making a finished hat or fascinator. You may add trims at a later date, to finish the veiling samples.
Class will meet from 10 am - 6 pm each day, with a 1 hour break for lunch.
The class fee of $325 includes most supplies. Students will need to bring their own basic sewing kit, plus thimble, steel dressmaker pins, and invisible nylon thread.
Strong hand sewing skills recommended.
Please practice with a curved needle and invisible nylon thread if you aren't used to working with these! If you need a curved needle in advance of the class, add a note to your order and I will mail you one.
