1-1 Private Felt Fedora Class
In this week-long millinery intensive, you will learn how to make a classic fedora, working with a dress or western weight fur felt and using millinery blocking techniques. Student will use a steamer and iron to shape the fur felt hat body over a domed crown block then press a flat brim. The technique allows you to hand sculpt a variety of crown shapes including traditional fedora creases and bashes, or you can be more creative and free form with your design. The dress weight felt makes a gorgeous flat brim, no wire needed.
You will learn how to insert a grosgrain or leather sweatband and how to add trims to the exterior. I will demonstrate both a classic band and tailored bow as well as a draped and layered boho band.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a 10 hr course with exact times and dates to be determined. Ideally, we meet on Zoom for 3 hrs each day Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday with a final follow-up session of 1 hr on Friday.
Skill Level: Previous hand sewing skills strongly recommended.
