Vintage Straw Cloth ~ Online
In this three-day, 6 hour workshop, students will learn how to work with vintage straw cloth, creating a pillbox, beret or percher style hat. I will provide an overview of various vintage millinery textiles that can be categorized as straw cloth, including knits and wovens. Students will learn how to properly build a buckram foundation prior to covering it with a tip and bias sideband. There will be time allowed for draping a bow and adding trims. Students will also learn how to pattern and sew a pleated silk lining so the inside is as beautiful as the outside.
Prep work: block and wire a buckram foundation.
Vintage straw cloth is rare. It occasionally comes up for sale on Milliners Exchange or Etsy. In 2020, I purchased a huge lot of 75+ yards from an old millinery shop. If you would like to see what I have for sale, contact me via email to request the link.
Optional course materials kit available for shipping.
Previous millinery skills required. Skill level is intermediate/advanced. You will need to have a suitable hat block, blocking experience and basic millinery workroom equipment and supplies.
Upon registration, you will receive an email with supply list, plus instruction for the prep work.
PLEASE NOTE: This class meets on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 am - 12 pm Central Time each day. There will be a homework between sessions.
