How do I measure my hat size?
To determine your proper hat size, hold a flexible measuring tape horizontally above the eyebrows, around the largest part of the head. Tape should be parallel to the floor and about an inch above the ears. Do not wrap the measuring tape too tightly; it’s best to leave a "pinky's" worth of ease to ensure a comfortable fit. Write down the size in inches. Adult women's sizes average 22 1/2 to 23 inches. Please double-check your measurement, especially if it is smaller than 22 inches or larger than 23 inches.
Many headpieces, fascinators, and small hats that perch over the forehead are One Size Fits All.
For custom cloches, turbans, and bridal veils, I will contact you with instructions for taking a few additional measurements.

How do I choose a hat?
While there are definitely colors that can be unflattering with certain skin tones and some face shapes that look best with a brimmed hat, I honestly believe that if you LOVE a hat and feel gorgeous and confident in it, then you will look beautiful!
A hat should be an extension of your personality - either who you are or who you want to be!
Consider proportions, head to toe, when planning an outfit. For example, a full skirt will help visually balance the width of a cartwheel brimmed hat. A pillbox or fascinator might look best with a pencil skirt or sheath dress. The hat should complement the outfit, not overpower it.
If you are petite, try balancing a large fascinator with other statement pieces such as an oversized clutch and block-heel sandals.
Finally, the hat should fit properly and be comfortable to wear. It should also be appropriate to the occasion and season. For example, you shouldn’t wear a wide brim hat to an evening wedding.

Does my purchase include a hat box?
Most Milli Starr hats and headpieces are carefully packed in a premium round hat box prior to shipping. The boxes are custom made for Milli Starr and embossed with our logo. The hat boxes are perfect for storage and suitable for carry-on travel. If you will be traveling with one of the 20” or 22” boxes, please check with your airlines about size restrictions.
Sample Sale items do not include hat boxes.

How do I care for my hat?
It is best to store your hat in a hat box, where it is protected from sunlight and dust. Tissue paper should support the crown and brim.
While most men’s hats are traditionally stored brim-up, women’s styles vary enough that there’s no single rule. For example, a boater with a flat brim and feather trims should be stored brim-down. Alternatively, a simple cloche should be stored brim-up with a “nest” support of tissue paper so that the rounded crown is not touching the flat bottom of the hat box.
I recommend taking a photo of your hat packed in its box when it first arrives. I’ve packed it very carefully for shipping and evaluated the best storage position based on its style and trims. Re-pack your hat the same way for safe storage or travel.
If you choose to keep your hat on a display stand or hook, make sure the fixture offers ample support so the crown will not become misshapen.
Do not store your hat near direct sunlight. Colors may fade.
Use a soft bristled hat brush to remove any lint or dust. On felt, brush in a circular motion spiraling out from the center of the crown.
Spot treat any light stains with a slightly damp cloth or felt sponge.
Avoid wearing your hat in the rain. Dyes may not be colorfast. Straw fibers will swell when wet and felt will shrink, distorting the shape.
Should you get caught in the rain, carefully blot the hat with a clean white towel to remove excess water. Allow to air dry. If your hat needs more than a light re-shaping with steam, please contact me for assistance.
Hat cleaning and re-blocking services are available by request.

How will my hat be shipped?
Shipping is via USPS or FedEx within the US and most other countries. Delivery times vary and are not guaranteed.
Every item shipped is fully insured and has a tracking number with delivery confirmation.
For a guaranteed or expedited delivery date, USPS Express or FedEX are the best options.
International customers are responsible for any customs fees levied by a foreign government. Customs processing may also cause delays in delivery time, so please plan accordingly.
Large hats going abroad must sip via USPS International Priority Mail. Because of new USPS regulations as of January 2016, I can no longer ship large hats via International First Class. The package size exceeds the maximum length + girth allowed.
