Millinery Classes

I have taught hat making classes for sixteen years and I offer both group lessons and private instruction. I can teach almost any technique from beginning to advanced. I especially enjoy sharing the many "tricks of the trade" such as how to properly drape a veil or create a perfectly rolled brim edge. In teaching couture millinery, I want to preserve traditions and ensure a high standard of craftsmanship continues as new milliners join the industry.

Group classes start at $225 per person. Max of 4 students.

Private lessons are $75 per hour, minimum of 3 hrs, offered at my studio in Austin, Texas.

If you wish to travel to Austin to study millinery, the Milli Starr studio is convenient to the airport and I can suggest several hotels in the area.

Courses include:

Blocked Fascinator Bases (2 day)

Buckram Boater (3 day)

Western Weight Felt Fedora -  Beginner (2 day)

Western Weight Felt Fedora - Intermediate (2 day)

Draped Fur Felt Cloche Hat (1 day)

Jan 1, 2024 update: I am focusing on bespoke orders and maintaining stock between now and the summer months. If you would like to be notified when classes resume, please follow Milli Starr on social media and/or sign up for our newsletter.

I occasionally teach through Continuing Education at Austin Community College. There are two 8-week, 40 hour courses: Millinery I and Millinery II. Students completing both will meet the Texas Workforce Commission requirements and earn a Certificate in Millinery.
